Kyoto Machiya Revitalization Project III

With the support of The Freeman Foundation, World Monuments Fund worked with Kyomachiya Council, Ofune-Hoko Preservation Association, and the Kyoto Center for Community Collaboration to complete the restoration of Shijo-cho Ofune-hoko Float Machiya in the summer of 2017. This report details WMF’s third restored site among the Kyomachiya Revitalization Project in Kyoto City, aside for Kamanza-cho Cho-ie Machiya and Furaibou Machiya. In November 2018, this project received the Award of Excellence in UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
