Annibale Carracci ceiling to be restored

Annibale Carracci's frescoed ceiling in Rome's Palazzo Farnese - home of the French Embassy - is to be restored, it has been announced.

Thought to be one of the most influential Renaissance commissions in Italy, the project is expected to cost 1m Euros (£870,000).

It is being funded by the World Monuments Fund, the French Embassy in Italy and the Fondation de l'Orangerie pour la Philan­thropie Individuelle.

Wilton's Music Hall restoration project to go ahead

n entertainment venue in east London which failed in its applications for Heritage Lottery funding has raised enough money to continue operating.

Wilton's Music Hall, which is close to Tower Bridge in the East End, had been seeking £4m for restoration work.

About £500,000 has been donated in two months, which will pay for initial assessments of the dilapidated site.

In the late 1970s, the Goodyear family donated the estate, which then included about 100 acres, to the New York Institute of Technology. In 1997, the institute sold the property to developers, who had planned to tear down the main house and build smaller homes on five-acre lots, according to the World Monuments Fund, which led the fight to preserve the house.

Historic Phillis Wheatley Elementary School torn down in Treme

The school, designed by Charles R. Colbert, was considered one of the best examples of modern architecture in New Orleans. The World Monuments Fund placed the structure on its World Monuments watch list in 2009 along with the ruins of Machu Picchu.

10/6/11 - Patrimoine - Albi, Cathédrale - Après avoir annoncé la restauration de la galerie des Carrache au Palais Farnèse (voir l’article), le World Monuments Fund Europe s’engage sur deux nouveaux projets : le salon Rico du palais de la Medina Al-Zahra, en Andalousie, édifiée au Xe siècle sous le califat d’Abd Al-Rahman III, et le chœur de la cathédrale d’Albi cité épiscopale inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco depuis juillet 2010.
