‘Government Will Promote Tourism in Bidar in a Big Way’

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Bidar Utsav here on Saturday.

He said the government was committed to promoting tourism in Bidar district. The historic city of Bidar figured in the 2014 world monuments’ watch-list released by the World Monuments Fund, a New York-based non-governmental organisation working for the protection of monuments. “A good beginning has been made. We will follow it up by launching several schemes and programmes to promote tourism in the district,” Mr. Siddarmaiah said.

US Grants Bt34 Million Fund for Wat Chai's Restoration

The United States provides Bt34 million totally to Ayutthaya's Wat Chai Watthanaram restoration project, said Fine Arts Department director-general Anek Sihamat yesterday.

Anek said the World Monument Fund (WMF) said they would give 347,000 USD (about Bt11 million) to the temple restoration project's phrase 2, after the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) had last year funded the project at 700,000 USD (about Bt23 million). Such aid helped boost the two countries' diplomatic ties which had been going on for 180 years now, he added.

An Open Source Map for Conservation

The Arches Project is an open source mapping platform designed specifically for the work of cultural preservation. Developed by the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) and the World Monuments Fund (WMF), Arches emerged out of work to create the Middle Eastern Geodatabase for Antiquities (MEGA), a rich inventory of archaeological sites in Jordan. The data take the form of a visual map, making it easy to understand for the casual visitor, but MEGA also contains tools and information for cultural conservation, like current conditions and monitoring schedules, and search features.
